The African Community Choir was originally called the International Community Mass Choir (ICMCC). It was founded in the fall of 2006 by Ministers Alton & Mercy Lee, with the encouragement of Rev. Emmanuel F. Karnley, who at that time was leading an organization called the African Pastors Association of Greater Charlotte. Rev. Karnley recognized the Lees’ musical talent and encouraged them to start a music ministry in Charlotte serving African communities.

In accordance with God’s will, Minister Lee and his wife began the International Community Mass Choir with a few dedicated individuals, some of whom are still part of the choir today.

The choir’s first performance was at the first Pastors Association’s revival in November 2006. In March 2009, the choir launched its first concert. Since then, the International Community Mass Choir, which is now known as the African Community Choir, has grown from its beginnings with only Liberians to include members from other nationalities, including Cameroonians, Ghanaians, Sierra Leoneans, Nigerians, Trinidadians, Togolese, Congolese, and African Americans. We hope to expand to include other African nations represented in the United States. We are grateful for the gift of music and feel called to reach out to lost souls through Praise & Worship.
